Springtime in Amsterdam

Springtime is the absolute best time to discover Holland and the beautiful city of Amsterdam. Flowers galore, picturesque views while meandering the canals, bikes aplenty, apple pie, beer, pancakes, stroopwafles, poffertjes (pronounced pufferchis), and did I mention the flowers?! Amsterdam is a professional photographers dream – albeit I’m in no way a professional photographer, I did take tons of photos. We spent a lot of time … Continue reading Springtime in Amsterdam

We need something real again

When I tell people I used to work in Nashville and mainly around music, they ask, “Do you like country music?” It’s their first response to the word, “Nashville.” My usual response is, “I enjoy a lot of types of music, but my heart lies with the singer/songwriter, acoustic types… and the occasional punk rock and rap.” I have to confess though, my beginnings in … Continue reading We need something real again

“Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.”

“Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.” -Roosevelt “People sometimes say ‘But one single can?’ One single can is of great importance. Because 99 is not 100, and that single one will make the difference.” The documentary, Waste Land, is about the lives of garbage pickers in Rio de Janeiro. Before I saw this film, I was blinded to such a … Continue reading “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.”

Don’t give us poison when we’re already suffering.

Have you seen the article posted on the New York Times website about how most job openings are “low-end ones?” (NYTimes) Or what about the one in the Tennessean about Food Lion closing 6 stores? (The Tennessean) Don’t forget about Macy’s closing a few stores lately too. And Yahoo released the statistic that recent college graduates are earning far less salary-wise than if they would … Continue reading Don’t give us poison when we’re already suffering.

Oktoberfest, a must-do bucket list trip

About three weeks from the annual Oktoberfest in Germany, the idea started sinking in to our heads – of going to Oktoberfest! With such little time to plan, we were optimistic, barring: finding a hotel, getting there, and, most importantly, budgeting this trip with the other traveling we were wanting to do this year. The conversation arose more frequently as the beginning of the festival neared. … Continue reading Oktoberfest, a must-do bucket list trip

Live Simply, Declutter

I used to love this blog series that MSNBC.com recorded called Behind the Wall. Here’s an explanation: Behind the Wall provides a dynamic look at China by examining news events and trends – both big and small – from NBC News correspondents and producers. Learn about China’s developing economy, politics and the cultural trends that move its 1.3 billion people. There was a great article … Continue reading Live Simply, Declutter

Must See for Any Music Fan

Sound City is a documentary directed by Dave Grohl about the LA recording studio, Sound City Studios. The studio opened in 1969 and closed it’s doors just recently in 2011. Sound City arguably changed the face of rock and roll with the introduction of the Neve Sound Board. The analog equipment captured some of the best-loved music in history – Nirvana’s Nevermind, Neil Young, Tom Petty … Continue reading Must See for Any Music Fan

Crema Coffee Brewtique

Crema is my favorite coffeehouse and located in one of my favorite U.S. cities, Nashville, TN. The owner-operated shop is known as a “coffee brewtique.” Once a diesel engine repair shop, Crema opened its doors in 2008. Crema only sells the beans they roast. The shop’s co-owner writes, “We source, roast and sell only our beans. And we only sell single origins.” Crema’s saying is to … Continue reading Crema Coffee Brewtique
