The Cotswolds, Idyllic English Countryside

Want to getaway and recharge for a weekend? Head to the idyllic English countryside, the Cotswolds. The Cotwolds spans about 800 miles of countryside, so first, you’ll need to pick a city. The rolling hills, medieval churches, and picturesque villages will make you never want to leave this place – you might even make a few animal friends along the way!

We visited the two quaint towns of Naunton and Stow-on-the-Wold while in the Cotswolds. Walking routes are extremely popular between each of the towns, and many of the routes are through farms and neighbors yards. There are even gates to unlock along the way, allowing you to pass through other’s property with signs directing the passerby to lock the gate back so cattle do not escape. Walking is a common activity in the area as it is a beautiful landscape and fairly easy to traverse from town to town.

What to do in the Cotswolds:IMG_8753

  • Walk the gorgeous grounds. I recommend the walk from Naunton to Stow-on-the-Wold. Click here for a map and more info.
  • Stop for proper tea at Lucy’s Tearoom.
  • Pop in and out of the local shops.
  • Check out the churches, like St. Edward’s Church in Stow-on-the-Wold which inspired JRR Tolkien’s door to Moria in The Lord of the Rings.
  • Have a pint at the local pub.
  • Walk through a “kissing gate” with your significant other. A “kissing gate” is a livestock gate, but due to it’s unique shape became known as a kissing gate.
  • Swing on a tree.
  • Simply relax!

Whatever you choose to do in the Cotswolds, you will surely fall in love with this place!
